Merging a WooCommerce and a Shopify store
When two brands with unique identities decide to merge into one.

The challenge
2 brands
2 websites
2 technologies
2 product lines
Can you help us merge them seamlessly?
This was the challenge presented to us by the founders of Kambium Möbel and Kyburz Made. They had decided to combine their strengths under a single brand, unifying their online presence while maintaining their focus on high-quality, Basel-made furniture.
Both brands had existing websites. One powered by WordPress with WooCommerce, and the other was a Shopify store. But which one should we keep ?
After evaluating their needs, Shopify emerged as the logical choice. Its scalability, robust e-commerce features, and ease of management made it the ideal platform to build their unified digital presence.

Our role
Webdesign
To maintain consistency and efficiency, we retained the existing Shopify theme but enhanced it for a more refined look. Since the new brand was still in the early stages of defining its identity, we focused on simplicity, allowing the spotlight to remain on their beautifully crafted products.
Technical integration
Technical challenges were at the heart of this project, and our expertise ensured a smooth transition:
Test environment setup
One aspect where Shopify is really way better than a WordPress is managing different instances of a website. Out of the box, Shopify allows you to make a test version of your website. With the help of an app, syncing content between the versions feels like a breeze.
Custom functionalities:
To meet the brand’s unique needs, we developed custom features using a GitHub-hosted theme with version control, enabling efficient collaboration and updates.
Domain migration
A rebranding effort often comes with domain changes. We carefully redirected URLs, switched email addresses, and ensured that SEO rankings and organic traffic remained stable throughout the transition.
Switching a domain can be a complex process, but it also presents a valuable opportunity. Learn more about this topic in this blog post, where Amy shares insights from a project we contributed to for Web Essentials.
Data and content migration
Bringing the product from WooCommerce into Shopify was not that simple and included some manual work. But with the help of Matrixify it was greatly simplified. The same tool makes it simple to migrate content from a test server to the live website. (Sidenote: the support of Matrixify is very good).

The results : A unified online presence
And voila !
In the end, we successfully merged two distinct brands, technologies, and product lines into one cohesive digital presence. The new Shopify-powered website now offers an enhanced user experience, a more efficient backend, and a strong foundation for future e-commerce growth.
